Denver police officers were caught on video tackling and beating a 23-year-old man who was doing nothing but talking on a telephone. The mayor and city officials are deeply divided and concerned over the incident and debating the punishment for the police officer. George Hemminger of Survive and Thrive TV said in this case the individual was lucky the incident was caught on video, because when there are not cameras around it is hard to prove what actually takes place. Hemminger said it is a travesty that the officers have not been fired. So far they have only experienced a reduction in pay. In order to inspire change in policing practices the media needs to cover the issue of police brutality more and bring the issue to the public’s attention, argued Hemminger.
