thankyou!! for showing all sides of the netbooks. Its a shame that both pull air in from the bottom, but it looks like the asus 1000 has much smaller vents. I assume thats because they have better heat management. The MSI wind looked like it had _tons_ of venting on the bottom, which is a shame.

My bro lost a laptop because he was running it on his bed, and the sheets blocked the vents, thus overheating the computer.

I think the big battery for the asus actually helps, because it elevates.

  2. Diablomarcus says:

    The 1000 has a solid-state-drive (40GB) while the 1000hd has a 160 GB hard disk drive.

I have a 701 with the crappy xandros system, I’m going to install xubuntu or puppy linux.
Only problem is the atheros Ethernet and WiFi interface, you need proprietary drivers.

  4. cyberteque says:

It sure does and very nice speakers as well. I use mine for playing MP(2,3)’s, AVI’s, etc.
I also use it in the field with an MSI USB DVTV tuner. Great sound, excellent picture quality.

  5. cyberteque says:

I can live without bluetooth, but I really miss 1394

  6. cyberteque says:

The only bad thing about the white 901 is my keys get really grubby. The reason the plug pack turned into a brick is the plug pack is 9.5V @ 2.5A, the “brick” is 12V @ 3A.
With my 901 I get nearly 6 hours, and that is running a Huawei E169 #g modem, an MSI USB DVB TV tuner and an external Logitech laser mouse! (Yes, I video chat in the middle of nowhere!)
I love my 701 and my 901, the best money I’ve ever spent on a computer system. I don’t mid the lack of bluetooth, but I miss 1394.
    Great buy!

what is the main difference between 1000 and 1000hd

  8. fretzy21 says:

6 hrs. depend on the use…or even lasts fro 7.5 hrs..because its a 6 cell battery

  9. mizukey935 says:

the black is easier to keeep clean.. mine’s black.

  10. 95smiles says:

Ugh. I have never seen somebody talk so much about a EEE without actually ever turning it on!

  11. LalalandE2008 says:

how much does the battery really last?

(for those that actually use it)

  12. leegaertdotcom says:

    i like the white more…

  13. fadondk says:

what colour is better, black or white?.. in terms of looks and maintenance? thanks

  14. a1mint says:

The right Shift key is awkwardly placed after the up arrow key, making it pretty much useless for touch-typists. Adding insult to injury, there is wasted, blank space between the up arrow button and the question mark key, where the Shift key should have been.

Cheers for this review. I was considering upgrading from my 701, and now I probably will :)

  16. Zildjian285 says:

I really love this Asus Eee PC 1000, it’s just a shame about the price.

Here in the UK it’s selling for around £360, quite a bit more expensive than others.

I might consider buying it from the US since everything seems so much cheaper out there.

  17. Zildjian285 says:

Are you talking about the Samsung NC10?

I looked at that but it seems it only has a Windows XP version with a 160GB hard disk which I don’t want/need.

Shame, otherwise I the Samsung would be my first choice.

  18. owenpetard says:

The Asus is better than the MSI for two main reasons. Firstly, build quality is much better. Secondly, what’s the point of a small, portable device if the battery life is crap? The Asus has the 6 cell battery and can last up to 8 hours. MSI is more like 2.5 hours!

  19. bubu469 says:

    Samsung new netbook FTW.

  20. BrianT1080 says:

They are pretty much the same…cept the ASUS has better attention to detail. ASUS all the way on this one! They run quiet and don’t get too hot either. Plus I like the screen better.

  21. BrianT1080 says:

the new 1000AH with the 160GB HDD is awesome as hell…

  22. 4352297 says:

im torn between msi wind and asus, somebody please help me out here

  23. flipknoc says:

1000H is better. It has bluetooth
