right tricky anyway … I have to add that “devenir n’importe qui” refers to “devenir quelqu’un” (to become someone) which in French overall means “being successful”, “beoming someone important”. So my last try would be “It’s by doing nonsense that you don’t become anybody” …

yeah, i thing the ‘n’importe’ construction is just tricky overall to translate. i think it’s a matter of whatever feels/sounds most correct to the person. there’s no set right or wrong translation. hilarious video, though! xD

you’re right, I kind of knew my translation wasn’t that proper … but it’s hard to translate “n’importe quoi” and “n’importe qui”. “Nothing” and “nobody” is probably more correct in English but not a better translation I think. I saw some other frenchman translating it by “it’s while making anything that you become whoever” … which can be better as regards both aspects. “dire n’importe quoi” in French means “say bullshit” or rather “say nonsense” things …
i see you’re french, so i don’t really like to correct u, but if we were to say it properly in english it would be more like ‘it’s by doing nothing, that you become nothing.’ no real translation for it though
